Kimika Taniguchi, Meet the team, Magic Hour Podcast

Kim is a graduate of Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor’s in Business and a sharp eye for all things marketing. She keeps our podcast workflow smooth and every episode sounding polished, bringing precision, organization, and creative flair to the team.

When she’s off the clock, Kim is all about the foodie life—scouting Vancouver’s trendiest restaurants, discovering hidden gem cafés, and indulging in whatever the current food craze is. To balance things out, you’ll find her at Pilates or spin class, keeping the energy high and the vibes strong.

She brings that same mix of curiosity, creativity, and joy into every project she touches.

How did you first get into podcast editing?

I actually got into it through my full-time role at CPABC — I had the chance to help kickstart our internal podcast, and that’s when I realized how much I enjoy the process. There’s something satisfying about trimming the audio and making it flow seamlessly.

Do you have a dream podcast you’d love to work on one day?

I’d love to work on a travel podcast — something that shares real stories from people around the world, or even just those little memorable moments you have while exploring a new place. I used to make travel vlogs for fun, so the idea of helping bring those kinds of stories to life again really excites me. I’ve also been listening to podcasts around psychology and human behavior, so something that explores how people think and feel would be really cool.

What makes an episode feel extra satisfying to edit?

When the conversations feel real and there’s that natural back and forth between speakers. It makes the process smoother and more enjoyable. A bonus when I’m learning something new or interesting from the conversation.

What’s a piece of creative advice you’d give someone starting out in podcasting or audio production?

Audio editing can feel a bit intimidating at first, but the more you practice, the more you’ll get the hang of it, and the process will speed up as you gain more experience.

What’s something small that instantly makes your day better?

A hot cup of coffee to start the day with some cafe jazz/afro house/r&b playing in the background.

What’s your ideal weekend vibe?

Morning spin or pilates, brunch with friends, maybe some café hopping or checking out a new restaurant. I love weekends that feel chill but still a little adventurous.

What does your 9 to 5 look like?

I’m currently working full-time as a Communications Specialist at CPABC, managing a variety of projects. I oversee social media content, work on sponsorships, coordinate video and photo shoots, and handle some graphic design. I’m also constantly collaborating with different departments to ensure everything stays on track. It’s a fast-paced role, but that’s what keeps me on my toes and helps me grow professionally.

What made you want to pivot away from the corporate world into freelancing?

The main reason I’m venturing into freelancing alongside my full-time job is for the creative freedom it provides. While my corporate role is fulfilling, freelancing allows me to take on diverse projects and collaborate with different people, which keeps things exciting and fresh.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve brought with you from corporate into creative work?

In my corporate experience, I learned the importance of attention to detail and accountability. Ensuring that every small element is in place helps create a polished final product that aligns with the vision. I also prioritize meeting deadlines and maintaining open communication about deliverables, so everyone is on the same page and the project runs smoothly.

You’re often jet setting somewhere new. What’s the most unforgettable place you’ve travelled to and why?

Morocco was unforgettable. I went with my best friend, and it felt like we were constantly discovering something new. The narrow, twisty streets of the medina were chaotic but fascinating, and then there were those moments of calm, like breakfast on a rooftop with the whole city spread out below. The hammam was an interesting experience I’ll never forget, and the architecture was just incredible — you don’t see anything like it anywhere else. It was one of those trips that left me with a ton of memories.

Are you a plan-every-detail traveller or go-with-the-flow?

I am definitely a planner. My itinerary is PACKED! But I always make sure to carve out time for those surprise adventures or just a bit of chill time.

How did you first hear about Unicorn Marketing Co.?

I actually heard about Unicorn Marketing through this Facebook group called GG, which connects women in Vancouver who are in media, communications, and tech. I saw Hope’s post about looking for a podcast editor, and at the time, I was kind of hesitant to dive into freelancing. But I thought, “Why not? If I don’t try, I won’t get anywhere.” So, I reached out to Hope, and I’m SO glad I did! She’s honestly the warmest, most friendly person, and from the moment we connected, I felt totally welcomed into the team.

What made you want to say “yes” to working with Hope and the team?

I knew I had to say yes after listening to the podcast episodes. They just felt like they matched my interests so well. Plus, the vibe of Unicorn Marketing really came through on their socials, and I could get a sense of the team dynamic. It just felt like a perfect fit, so I was excited to be part of something that matched my interests and values.

How would you describe the team vibe here at Unicorn?

It’s a really creative and supportive vibe. Everyone here is passionate about what they do, but there’s also this laid-back, fun energy. You can be your authentic self and that to me means a lot.
