It’s Asian Heritage Month, and we want to share with you some of the amazing AAPI women-owned brands we love to follow!
Of course, you know that we love supporting local, female-led and diverse businesses whenever possible – so we thought this was a perfect moment to bring some incredible (and maybe new-to-you) brands to your attention!
Let’s take a look at some of our favourite AAPI women-owned brands!
A Few of our Favourite Women-Owned and Asian Led Businesses in North America
1. Blume
Blume is a skincare company that was created to make self care easier and healthier, while destigmatizing normal things like acne, puberty, periods and sex ed. The owners, two sisters, created the company to protect, nurture, and shift the narrative away from perfect skin and towards healthy skin.
Our favourite products are the Meltdown Gel Cream, Cloud 9 Cramp Oil, and Sunburst Mineral Sunscreen.
2. Baggu
Baggu makes simple, playful things for everyday living. They have a large selection of crossbody bags, backpacks, travel bags, reusable bags, socks, and so many more unique products. Baggu is known for their brilliant designs and colour schemes that are sure to fit into any wardrobe.
Our favourite products are the Crescent Bag, Reusable Bag, and Packing Cube Set.
3. Tower 28 Beauty
Tower 28 is a beauty brand that specializes in sensitive skincare and makeup products. Their products are multi award-winning including 4x Allure Best of Beauty, and they can be spotted on the red carpet. Tower 28 is also environmentally conscious. They use recycled plastic for all of their packaging as part of their commitment to sustainability and also avoid unnecessary packaging such as false bottoms and paper inserts.
Our favourite products are the MakeWaves Mascara, SuperDew Highlighter, and SOS Spray Duo.
4. Karst Goods
Karst strives to make beautiful, purposeful products that are conscious of the environment. To this date, it has meant creating high-quality recycled stone paper notebooks, journals, and woodless pencils. Soon, it’ll mean an entire ecosystem of thoughtfully designed personal workspace and desk accessories. They hope that their suite of tools will help people create and achieve more, responsibly.
Our favourite products are the Woodless Pencils, Stone Paper Notebook, and Cobalt Scissors.
5. The Sill
The Sill was founded on the simple premise that plants make us happier and healthier. The idea sprouted in a bleak apartment when the owner, Eliza, felt homesick. Her Mom, an immigrant who stayed connected to her Filipino roots through gardening, recommended Eliza get some houseplants. Little did she know tapping into her family’s generational love of plants would grow into the small but mighty company that is The Sill.
Our favourite products are the Pet-Friendly Plants, Balboa Planter, and Kitchen Harvest Gift Set.
6. Mala The Brand
Mala evolved out of a passion project for the owner, Melody, making candles in her spare time after her 9-5. After going all-in with the business, she slowly grew her team starting with her mom! The candles are crafted from the simplest ingredients: natural coconut soy wax, wood wicks (for maximum cozy feels), lead-free cotton wicks & a premium blend of phthalate-free fragrance & essential oils.
Our favourite products are the Cereal, Sundays, and Match Latte candles.
7. Vessi
In a world where most people complain about the rain, Vessi believes there’s a bright side to wet weather.
Vessi was started as a way to get people out in the world on rainy days. Three Vancouverites started the brand after a few too many wet socks and rain checks. They set out to create a totally waterproof sneaker that has turned into a community focused on celebrating water and giving back.
Our favourite products are the Soho Sneaker, Stormburst Low Top, and Weekend Chelsea.
8. Leze The Label
In 2018, the owner Tanya called her co-owner Karen after feeling inspired by her shameless tendencies to wear Superman PJ’s in public — “What if we could create comfortable work pants for people that were recycled and looked presentable?”
After years of purchasing stiff and expensive workwear, the two best friends decided to turn waste into sustainable fashion as a vehicle to pursue comfort every day.
Our favourite products are the Jordyn + London Set, Haven Pant, and Sofia Cardigan.
9. Scandinazn
At SCANDINAZN, the owner Jamie, crafts imaginative pieces inspired by the geometric shapes and pops of colour in Scandinavian design and the subtle handmade intricacies of Japanese art. She uses discarded leather as the main material component.
SCANDINAZN is all about promoting creative self-expression and sustainability through our ethically-made jewelry.
Our favourite products are the Big Scoop Earrings, Daisy Petal Hoops, and Mixed Beads Necklace.
