“There’s more we can do. I’m happy to see that there’s more to the period conversation in general and that it’s more open than it used to be.”
Ever feel like you’re building something that matters—but wondering how to do it with more intention, clarity, and care?
In this episode of The Magic Hour Podcast, I sit down with Sara Jónsdóttir—founder of Revol Cares—to talk about disrupting the period care industry, designing products that centre real people, and navigating business alongside parenting and partnership.
Sara shares how her own experience with shame, heavy bleeding, and ineffective products pushed her to create a solution—not just for herself, but for anyone who’s ever felt dismissed by the wellness aisle. We talk about scaling a people-first business, letting your values lead, and why building with heart is always worth it.
Episode highlights:
- Why “work-life balance” is a myth—and how Sara embraces flow, flexibility, and seasonality instead
- What she saw missing in period care and why she knew the industry needed a shift
- The reality of building a business and a family—with a newborn, a co-founder husband, and a deeper vision for how life and work could actually feel
- The origin of the word “taboo” and what it tells us about the history of menstruation stigma
- Her decision to prioritize people over product—and how that led to 80,000+ happy customers
- The hidden cost of period products, the fast fashion problem in period care, and the environmental impact we don’t talk about enough
- How shame and silence still dominate the conversation around menstruation—and what it means to reclaim your cycle on your own terms
- Biohacking your period: designing products that remove the extra steps, the backups, the anxiety
- Why separating yourself from the shame is not just healing. It’s resistance!
Meet our Magical Guest
Sara Jónsdóttir, Founder of Revol Cares

Sara Jónsdóttir is the founder of Revol Cares, the only leakproof period underwear brand in Canada with medical recognition from the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
After years of managing her period with unreliable products and navigating the shame and anxiety that often come with heavy bleeding, Sara used her technical fashion background to design a solution that didn’t exist—leakproof, toxin-free underwear built for real people and real flows. What started at her kitchen table in 2019 has grown into a nationally recognized brand with over 80,000 customers and placement in more than 3,000 retailers across North America.
When she’s not designing the future of period care, she’s raising her two-year-old daughter and co-running the business alongside her husband, Mayo.

Resources Mentioned In This Episode:
Let’s Talk About Funding For Endometriosis: This blog is more than just a call for awareness—it’s a demand for equity in women’s health. Explore how endometriosis, a condition affecting over 190 million people worldwide, continues to be underfunded, misdiagnosed, and misunderstood—despite its widespread impact. Revol Cares breaks down the staggering disparities in research funding, challenges outdated myths, and highlights the systemic gaps in care that too many menstruators still face. The post also points to a growing shift: increased investment in women’s health, a rising wave of advocacy, and the urgent need for inclusive, non-hormonal solutions.
Foods to Boost Your Mood During the Luteal Phase: Let’s talk about the luteal phase – it’s that part of your menstrual cycle sandwiched between ovulation and your period when your progesterone levels go up, estrogen takes a nosedive, and your body might throw you a curveball. If social media has taught us anything, it’s that this phase gets a bad rep for causing things like mood dips, fatigue, skin sensitivity, and cravings that could make you demolish an entire bag of chips in one sitting.
The Odlum Brown Forum Pitch Finale by the Forum: All three finalists of the 2024 Odlum Brown Forum Pitch Finale were first-time entrepreneurs trying to change the way people think about problems in their respective industries. Sara Jónsdóttir launched Revol Cares in Vancouver to disrupt the period underwear industry.
Vanessa Van Edwards – TED Talk: “You Are Contagious”: In this fast-paced, engaging TEDxLondon talk, behavioral researcher Vanessa Van Edwards breaks down the hidden science of charisma and human connection. She explores how our emotions and energy are literally contagious, and how small changes in body language, vocal tone, and facial expressions can dramatically affect how others perceive us. Using real research and personal storytelling, Vanessa empowers audiences to harness authenticity and warmth in everyday interactions—especially in high-stakes moments.
